The
History Behind La Luz del Alma
and the Spiritual Science Church
The Spiritual
Science Mother Church was founded on May 29, 1923 by
Reverend Julia Forrest at Carnegie Hall Studios, in New York City.
The National
Spiritual Science Center was established in 1941
in Washington, D.C. by Reverend Alice Wellstood Tindall
as the First Spiritual Science Church. Reverend Tindall was trained at
the Spiritual Science Mother Church in New York City.
In 1969, due to illness,
Reverend Tindall turned the church over to Reverends Henry and Diane Nagorka.
They moved to 16th Street N.W. and renamed the church the National Spiritual
Science Center. The NSSC is in its 67th year, providing services and a
four year curriculum. It is located at 1325 Fern Street N.W., Washington,
D.C. 20012, and is governed by a board of directors.
Out of this National
Spiritual Science Center, Reverend Sylvia Kalb graduated and founded the
Baltimore Spiritual Science Center (which is now in its third decade),
with a 4-1/2 year study curriculum and services for the community.
Silentlight was founded
in 1990, when a charter was granted by the Baltimore Spiritual Science
Center. In 1998, Silentlight began offering a four year curriculum with
ordination upon completion of all requirements. In 2003, Silentlight granted
a charter to La Luz del Alma to serve the needs of Spiritual Scientists
in the Southwestern and Western United States.
La Luz del Alma's
Founder and Director Reverend
Maggie Duval graduated from the Silentlight Spiritual Science
Center in 2003 and was ordained the same year, following four years of
study.
